Your Team

While everyone at Baxter has a shared passion for our mission, the R&D teams play a critical role in our ability to save and sustain lives. Scientists and engineers in R&D work together to develop, test, and launch products that enhance patient care. In this role you will apply a proven understanding of standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria as part of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) toward the development of new or enhanced software products or processes.

In this role you will apply a solid understanding of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria as part of the Product Development Lifecycle (PDLM) toward the development of new or enhanced electromechanical product with software components. May plan, schedule, and lead project assignments using various engineering techniques, processes, and methods with minimal guidance.

What you'll be doing:
  • May supervise/coordinate an engineer and/or technicians on assigned work throughout the software development lifecycle.

  • Design, architecture or development of electromechanical device with software.

  • Lead development of Design Inputs and risk management strategy.

  • Work with cross functional team members (e.g., Marketing and Clinical personnel) to translate user needs into system requirements.

  • Lead engineering resources (Electrical, Mechanical, and Software) in the decomposition of system requirements to derived requirements.

  • Contributes to resolution of competing constraints among inter-related functions (e.g., engineering, manufacturing, regulatory, marketing) required to deliver products to market.

  • Resolves interface issues and have the ability to document theory of operations of complex medical product designs.

  • Work with verification engineers to define test strategies for the development of verification plans and validation plans using requirement tracing methods.

  • Support risk analysis activities from the capture of inherent hazards through mitigation, including quantitative residual risk calculation in support of the Safety Assurance Case.

  • Implement configuration management through the complete product life cycle, including design, development, and sustaining phases.

  • Interface with Manufacturing, Service, Product Surveillance, Supply Chain, and Customer Training staff through the design transfer process.

  • Ensure compliance to the product development process and Quality System.

What you'll bring:

  • B.S.in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or related field and 6 years of related experience. Experience in software development and remote monitoring development is desired.

  • A solid technical understanding of the principles and procedures of software engineering (e.g., SDLC, IEC 62304, CMMI, Agile).

  • Display a solid understanding of theories/practices utilized by other disciplines outside primary area of expertise.

  • Ability to convince management on courses of action with minimal assistance using both written and verbal methods.

  • Effectively operate in and may facilitate cross-functional teams.

  • Must be able to provide solutions that reflect understanding business objectives and cost implications.

  • Experience with embedded or application software development.

  • Passionate about software quality and be prepared to advocate on behalf of good process and best practices.

  • Experience with medical device software engineering disciplines (e.g., software development environments, configuration management tools, code inspection techniques and tools, testing methods and test management tools) preferred.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $88,000 to $121,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
